Portrait of My Brain Project (Rm 11)

Dear families,

In health, we have been learning about multiple intelligences and how to make SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant/realistic, time-based) goals and we'll be putting that learning together in a portrait of our brains! Much like a vision board collage, we will use drawings and sentences, as well as images and words from magazines to create a collage that represents intelligence types your child identifies with. Because we are always working on growth mindset, we will also represent the SMART goals we created and the things we want to achieve. See below for our target for effective posters.

Sincerely,

Ms. Tang

Student Led Conferences

Our conference booking system, accessed through MyCBE/PowerSchool, opens on Monday January 21 at 10 am. Please sign up for a 45-minute block to spend in your child's classroom. Your child will need to be present as they will be your guide through their learning environment. Please also plan to spend time in the learning commons, music room, gymnasium, and French room. We look forward to welcoming all families into the school at the end of the month. If you are not able to attend student led conferences this term, please contact Ms. Tang or Ms. Youngblood.

Call For Science Fair Judges

Since October, students in Captain John Palliser's Science Fair Club have shown great enthusiasm and hard work in researching or conducting experiments! On February 5th we are requesting judges to assess the final projects in order to determine which students will represent our school at City Finals. Judges will be viewing student work and presentations on the morning of Tuesday, February 5, from 9:40 - 12:30.

We welcome all volunteers with a volunteer clearance, judges do not need to have a background in Science or Education. They need to listen to student presentations and ask questions about their learning and research in order to fill out the Science Fair judging sheet. We will be looking for 6 - 10 adults from the community or within the school whose children/students are not participating in the science fair this year.

Please spread the word and contact us with the emails below to express your interest. We look forward to seeing you!

Report Cards

Dear families,

Your child's report card will be coming home today. On your child's report card, you will see evaluative statements from teachers. These statements correlate to the numerical indicator as recorded next to the report card stems. Below is a chart of the words that all CJP staff used, and how the words align with the numerical indicators on the Report Card. We do this to remain consistent within and across all grades and classes. For more information, visit the school website or contact your child's teacher.

We hope you have a wonderful Wednesday.

Sincerely,

Ms. Youngblood and Ms. Tang

Gymnastic January!

Dear families,

We have begun working on gymnastics in physical education. We started with simple locomotor movements today but in the next few weeks, we will be doing more gymnastics and incorporating more equipment. Please make sure your child comes to school without dangling jewelry (studs are okay), snug fitting clothing that they can move around in, and long hair pulled back in a pony tail. These guidelines MUST be followed to ensure that your child remains safe during our gymnastics unit.

Thanks for your ongoing support!

A note about word work...

Dear families,

Every week, students in room 10 and 11 receive new words to sort, spell, define and use in sentences and every week, students are expected to bring their words home to show their families and practice sorting, spelling, defining and using their words. Please remind your child to do word work at home to continue their vocabulary development.

We thank you for your ongoing support in our learning!
