Curling Volunteers, Please Read!

Hi volunteers,

Thank you so much for sharing your time with us to help us with our physical education! We're looking forward to seeing you all on Wednesday. Please note that you will need to bring with you a pair of shoes for inside the rink as they do not allow street shoes.

Thanks for your cooperation!

Grade 4 Math

Hi families!

We've gotten our check-ins back and today in class we went over how to use various strategies to solve each problem presented (on the front page). Please take a look and see how your child is doing. Be sure to ask them questions about what they do or do not understand.

After you have looked at this assessment with your child, please sign and return to school to verify that you have seen it.

Thanks!

Room 10 and 11 secret Santa

Dear families,

We'll be ringing in the holidays next week with Secret Santa! After earning 100 gotcha tickets, our classes have voted to do a gift exchange. Both rooms 10 and 11 will be doing these in their own spaces. Here's how it works:

1. Students will make/buy/find a small gift item (no more than $5).
2. Wrap the gift so no one knows what it is. Keep it a surprise!
3. Bring your gift on Monday, December 17.
4. Everyone that brings a gift will have their name put in a draw.
5. When your name is drawn, pick a gift!
6. Once everyone's name is drawn and gifts are all handed out, open it up!

Remember, Secret Santa is all about thinking of others and spreading joy. Everyone is able to participate. It doesn't matter what you get, what matters is having fun!

Hope you'll join us in celebrating our gotcha ticket goal! Any questions, email either Ms. Youngblood or Ms. Tang.

Pajama Day - December 20

Thursday December 20th is our December Spirit Day. Get into the spirit of relaxing on the upcoming holidays by wearing your pajamas to school. For safety reasons students must still wear their indoor shoes. Please no slippers or pajamas with feet that cannot fit into your child’s indoor shoes.

Museum Project

Dear families,

Room 10 and 11 have some brand new museum curators! We will be researching about an immigrant group that came to Alberta in the late 1800s and choosing an artifact from that group to display. We listened to a real museum curator who's worked in museums all over Canada and she gave us some tips on what to do:

1. Do as much research as you can on the immigrant group.

2. Do as much research as you can on the artifact.

3. Think about what the artifact tells us about the group. (This is why you needed to do step 1. first.)

4. Choose an artifact that looks interesting or has a cool story.

Here's what we'll be working on this week.

Curators are expected to complete this project by Monday, December 17 so feel free to help your child with the research process as needed.

Weekend Update

Dear families,

Here are some highlights of what we have been working on this week:

Physical Education
We're wrapping up our Rocks and Rings lessons and received a certificate for completing our training! Soon we'll get to test out our skills on a real curling rink. Details coming soon!

Science
Our action plans are all submitted. Ask me what my action plan is for solving a waste-related problem in our community. I may need help with acting out my group's plan this weekend. Please make sure you have evidence of action ready for Monday, December 10.

Social Studies
We've been learning about different perspectives when it comes to people and their relationship with the land. Did you know that Calgary used to have a different name? At least 7, actually! Also, did you know how people used to use buffalo? Check out the pictures below!

Art
Have you checked out Dale Chihuly's work yet? We've been making our own Chihuly-inspired designs and reusing plastic to do it!

Math
Grade 4s, be prepared for an addition and subtraction check in on Monday. Practice those strategies!

Have a wonderful and restful weekend everyone!

Student Accounts: Room 11

Dear families,

Due to some security concerns with students' Raz Kids accounts, I have decided to change the passwords.  If you are accessing Raz Kids at home, you will not be able to log in with your current password. Your child will receive a new account information card on Monday.

In addition, students will be resetting their passwords for the school server on Monday as a precaution to ensure that your child's account is safe and secure. Please remind students about the digital citizenship contract that was signed in September. It would also be a good idea to discuss internet security in general and how to create a secure password. Here's a quick video about cyber safety:

Thanks for your continued support, families!
