We are all treaty people / As long as the sun shines

Today, we were fortunate to have Quest Theatre come and present a play to our school about Canada's history with the First Nations and signing treaties. This is what we learned:

The newcomers were really mean and they signed this treaty and broke the treaty and started to take over and kill First Nations. - Megan S.

The newcomers had a bad disease. - Kai F.

The disease is small pox, which is related to chicken pox. - Kellan

We learned how the newcomers signed a treaty and before they signed each treaty, and they gave First Nations whiskey. They had water in their cups instead of whiskey. There were eleven treaties signed, altogether. - Henry

Even though the First Nations signed the treaty, the newcomers didn't keep their promise and they would still take their other land.  -Megan G.

The newcomers set up trading stands and traded whiskey and other things for buffalo pelts. - Simon

The newcomers, as they came, they changed how the first nations people spoke, ate, dressed and what kind of houses they lived in. -Artie

The newcomers came on ships. -Matilda

Thanks for learning with us!
